PBGen Nieves identified the rookie cop who went viral on social media as Patrolman Mark Lyndon De Ocampo, 29 years old, assigned at the Special Operation Unit (SOU) of the PNP AVSEGROUP, and a resident of Sampaloc Manila.

Based on the post on social media of one of the owner’s relatives, on June 6, 2020, Patrolman De Ocampo who was allegedly drunk, shot and killed their pet dog that was on her leash and tied to a post in front of their house along G. Tuazon Street in Sampaloc Manila.

The owner of the dog, Rene Timbol, upon learning the incident went to De Ocampo’s house to confront him but the latter just told him that Timbol’s dog bit him thus he shot the dog causing its instantaneous death.

Timbol reported the incident to barangay and filed a complaint against De Ocampo.

Pat De Ocampo was charged with malicious mischief and violation of RA 10631 or the Animal Welfare Act.

PBGen Nieves ordered the Chief, SOU to disarm Pat De Ocampo and immediately relieve him while his case is under investigation. “I will not tolerate anyone under my watch to do such a cruel thing. Rest assure that we will investigate further on this case and if found guilty, I'll make sure he gets punished. May this also, serve as a lesson to everyone especially to those who are in lower ranks, walang lugar ang kayabangan at basag ulo sa ating hanay, respetuhin ninyo ang lahat ng may buhay maski pa aso ito.
